Anacrusis (I. Crescendo) – for cello and eight voice amplified choir (2006–7)

- score
Anacrusis is the first in a series of pieces exploring four musical changes: crescendo, decrescendo, accelerando and ritardando. All sound is created first by the cellist, and is picked up by one of eight amplified singers surrounding the audience. The singers spectrally alter the generative note, elongate it, and move the sound around the space. As the process continues, more and more layers exist at the same time, and a contrapuntal relationship, both of pitch and space, is created by the ensemble.

A version for solo cello and live electronics is also available.
